What size dance floor do I need?
Size the floor to the number of people dancing at once, not your full guest count. A good rule of thumb is about 4.5 sq ft per dancer, assuming roughly 40% of guests are on the floor at peak. For 120 guests that lands around a 15 × 15 ft floor.
How many guests actually dance at once?
It's normal for only a third to half of your guests to be dancing at any moment. This calculator defaults to 40% at peak — bump it up for a lively crowd or down for a more reserved one.
Why does the size step up in 3-foot increments?
Portable dance floors are assembled from 3 × 3 ft panels, so floor dimensions step up in 3-foot increments. The calculator rounds to the next full panel size and tells you how many panels you'll need.
Can a dance floor be too big?
Yes. An oversized floor looks empty and discourages dancing. It's better to err slightly small so the floor feels full and energetic — guests fill in around the edges as the party builds.
